Fishing Report For Gila River

Fishing Report for the Gila River

One of my alltime favorite places to fish is the Gila River.  During the summer months I fish somewhere on the Gila River about 3 times a week.  There are many ponds and stretches of the Gila River that are excellent for fishing.

Gila River Fishing

There are about 6 different spots I usually fish along the Gila River between PIR raceway and 5 miles west of I-85.  I have a small boat that put on top of my 4×4 and head out in the desert to one of the many Gila River fishing spots.  The Gila river is loaded with differnt specis of fish from Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Talapia, Catfish, Bluegill, and Carp.

Gila River Fishing Report for July 27th, 2011

Got to the Gila river this morning around 5am.  My brother and I launched our little 11 foot Coleman boat.  I was throwing a black Spro popper frog and a green Ribbit swimmig frog.  I got a couple hits but no takers.  My brother was throwing a spinner bait and a Rapala popper and no action at all.  Finally I switched to my bread and butter, the senko.

For the Gila river I use several different colors.  Green pumpkin, black/blue, baby bass, or red shad.  I threw a red shad wacky style around 6am and in 5 minutes caught my first fish.  We fished from 530am to 930am today.  I caught 6 lm bass on red shad senkos,  2 lm bass on green pumpkin senkos, and snagged a 9lb carp.  Largest bass today only went 3.5 lbs.  First time in a while I have not landed a 4 plus pound bass at the Gila River.

My brother landed 3 lm bass on a flat rap from Rapala and one Channel Catfish.  All were about 2 pounds.  Even though the fishing was slow today we had a great time fishng the Gila River.
